David Martin

David Martin graduated in 2000 with a MA Fine Art Hons, 1st class from the University of Edinburgh and Edinburgh College of Art. David has won many prizes. The most recent being The NC MacFarlane Charitable Trust Award, with the Royal Glasgow Institute in 2006. In the same year he was awarded the prestigious Alastair Salvesen Travel Scholarship, in association with the Royal Scottish Academy.

With the aid of this scholarship David embarked on an epic journey from Cairo, across the Levant, into Turkey through Eastern Europe, to Budapest. In tracing this route, the artist followed the development of alchemy. He created an extensive sketch journal, exploring themes of cultural and personal transformation. On his return this book was further developed into a series of paintings which were exhibited in a highly successful and critically acclaimed solo exhibition in the Royal Scottish Academy.
