Craig Mitchell

Craig has been a ceramic artist for over fifteen years graduating from The Royal College of Art with an MA in ceramics in 1992.

His work explores contemporary culture and universal themes but is also a response to current events both political but more often personal. Chance comments, memories and interesting lines or words often act as triggers for ideas, which he likes to realise in a humorous way. Devices he use to achieve this include exaggerated movements or proportions, unlikely scenarios or ridiculous juxtapositions and titles act as a way in for the viewer.

Each figure is hand built from earthenware clay slabs and assembled after firing. Craig exhibits internationally. His work is held in the collections of The Royal Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh, Yingko Ceramics Museum, Taiwan and The World Ceramics Centre, Korea.
